Windows and doorways as subject matter for paintings has captured the attention of many artists over the years. In “Window Reflections”, however, Philip has produced an image of an old double hung window with it’s galvanised iron window hood that is unique to the Australian weatherboard house. The trademark Farley detail is there in the cracked and peeling paint and the foreground fence.
But a focal point to the painting, there is something else that is also unique. During the breeding season, the male PeeWee (Australian Magpie-Lark) becomes rather aggressive and sometimes attacks it’s own reflection in windows in an attempt to scare off the apparent intruder.
